Precision balls

Steel balls

Main applications: ball bearings, automotive components, valves, ball screws, slewing rings. Also used in polishing and grinding machines.
Steel balls

Low carbon steel balls

(AISI 1010/1015)

Due to their chemical composition, balls manufactured with this kind of material can be only case-hardened (surface heat treatment) and it means that nucleus of the ball is soft regarding the surface.

The balls manufactured in this material are adapted for applications with low load where a high precision is not required, like guides for drawers, toys, locks. These steel balls are the most economic.

  • Range: de 1,588 a 25,4 mm
  • Hardness: 55-65 HRC

High carbon steel balls

(AISI 1045/1085)

This type of balls presents the advantage of offering a bigger resistance to load regarding the balls manufactured with low carbon because the internal part of the ball is able to be hardened.

Their cost is smaller than the balls manufactured in Chrome steel AISI 52100. They are used in applications like bicycles, bearings for furniture.

  • Range: de 1,588 a 50 mm
  • Hardness: 59-66  HRC

Chrome Steel Balls

(AISI 52100)

The balls manufactured with this material presents a high resistance to wear and load. Used mainly for bearings production.

Chrome steel is the most used material for precision steel balls.

  • Range: 0,4 to 250 mm
  • Hardness: 60-66 HRC

Frequently asked questions

What types of steel balls are available?

Chrome steel balls are available for applications requiring high wear resistance and carbon steel balls for less demanding applications.

What sizes of steel balls are available?

  • Chrome steel balls from 1 mm - 120 mm
  • Carbon steel balls between 2.50 - 12.70 mm

Are special diameters available?

In addition to the standard sizes listed in the list: https://www.luisapariciosl.com/downloads/1/02-catalogo-generalpart10-2.pdf balls can be supplied in special diameters  between 1 - 12.7 mm under minimum quantities and within 2-4 weeks.

What are steel balls used for?

  • To facilitate running in guides, spindles, bearings and slewing rings.
  • As a shut-off valve for different applications
  • Polishing  metal parts.
  • Cosmetics industry
  • Mixing compounds in paints and sprays

How are steel balls made?

The usual process consists of eight steps: stamping, roughing, hardening, polishing, lapping, cleaning, sorting and quality control.
